FILMING NEWS REELS

DEPICTED IN OGTA S NEXT FEATURE Newsreel cam.,. hawks age young men with plenty of pep and originality, plus infinite resourcefulness and downright courage. In the filming of 1 Above the Clouds,’ which comes to the Octagon on Friday, this was a major factor in the selection of the cast. Robert Armstrong, who plays the part of “Scoop” Adams, ace cameraman for the ‘ Globe News,’ is an athlete. He plays tenuis and boxes, never professionally, but well above the average, to keep in trim. Richard Cromwell, who is Dick, assistant to the peerless Scoop, is a tennis player and swimmer. He really can do all of the stunts he is pictured as doing. He needs no stunt man to double for him. Dorothy Wilson plays tennis, too. and finds that this strenuous exercise keeps her fit. She .and Richard Cromwell are the youngest in the cast. She is just > the type of girl with whom a strenuous, ambitious yong cameraman, aspiring to be the ace in his profession, would fall in love. Throughout all of the thrilling, hairraising scenes of ‘Above the Clouds ’ these three stars do their strenuous work easily. Probably no newsreel man ever had to cover as many thrilling events in so short a time as does the cast of ‘ Above the Clouds.’ The story rushes quickly from aeroplane stunts to a gang fight, and then moves quickly from a prize ring to a submarine disaster during naval manoeuvres, and is climaxed when the cameramen are caught aboard a huge dirigible the size of the ill-fated Akron as it cracks up over the ocean.
