BETTER OUTLOOK

MR COATES ON SITUATION DAIRY FARMERS’ DIFFICULTIES [Tbr United Association.] AUCKLAND, March 12. “ Our outlook to-day is definitely better than twelve months ago,” said Mr Coates, in opening the annual conference of the New Zealand Justices of the Peace Association this morning. fie said conditions were difficult, but he thought everyone could feel that something was moving. The improved prices for wool and meat were benefiting the South Island, but the dairy farmers, particularly in the north, were experiencing a most difficult time. The question of assistance would always have to come back to the Government. Encouraging prospects were the improvement in the apple-growing and pig-raising industries. The world position was definitely brighter than a year ago.
