SOME USEFUL HINTS Loose knife handles should be removed and reset in the following manner: —Make a mixture of three-parts resin to one of bath brick, and fill the empty space in the handle with this mixture Heat the steel prong of the knife and insert into the handle. The heat of the steel will temporarily dissolve the mixture, hut when it resets a firmly-gripped handle will result. It is a good plan to save all paper bags and fill with coal or coke, placing them in the scuttle ready for use. In tills way the fuel need not be toadied with the hands, and flying dust can be obviated.

Jf you experience difficulty in lighting your fuel stove, mix half a pint of kerosene with a biscuit tin of ash Takings. Keep in an air-tight tin, and when lighting a fire sprinkle a handful on the wood. Rapid kindling is assured by this means.

Although it is not, usual to empty scraps down the kitchen sink, an excop-

tion should be made in the ease of coffee grounds, as they free the pipes from clogging with grease, etc.

An old magazine is useful on the kitchen table. I’so it as a stand for pots and pans. As each page becomes dirty, tear it off. Cotton reels provide suitable substitutes for door and cupboard handles, if you cut them across the centre with a fine saw, and screw them into position.
