AUCKLAND FLOODING
BRIDGE CARRIED AWAY MOTORIST'S NARROW ESCAPE [Psk United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February Ip. A terrific downpour during the night caused a sudden rise in the Puhoi River, between Waiwera and Warkworth. The Puhoi bridge, on the main highway to Northland and about three miles from Warkworth, was washed away. A motorist crossing shortly after midnight, Mr L. Adams, of Whangarei, had a startling experience. _ He was only a few yards across the bridge when he saw the structure at the other end rise about six feet. Ho immediately put the car into reverse gear, and made off to safety. It was only a few minutes later that the wooden bridge, forty to fifty yards long, was swept away. The heavy rain continues.
