MAY SHARE BIG FORTUNE

THAMES COUNTY FAMILY A MILLION ESTATE [Peh United Press Association.] THAMES, February 10. A Matatoki family are at present on tenterhooks, and probably will remain so for the next few days, till definite word is received whether they will share in a big fortune loft by a relative in the United States. Mrs K. Noble, whose husband is a relief worker employed by the Thames County Council, was recently advised that she may participate in the distribution of tho million pound estate left by a Mr Walsh, who served in the Maori Wars before going to America. Mrs Noble is the daughter of Mrs Moran widow, of Devonport, who is a daughter of Mr Walsh, and one of a family of five likely to share the estate. Mrs Moran has six children who, in the event of the fortune being distributed, will divide £200,000. The matter of the disposal of the fortune is in the hands of a firm-of Dunedin solicitors, and Mrs Noble expects confirmation, or otherwise, during the coming week. Her husband has been a relief worker for the past three years, and there is a family of young children. VARYING ACGGUNTS OF FORTUNE DUNEDIN FIRM UNAWARE OF NEW CLAIMANTS Particulars of the fortune, as published in earlier histories of the case, appear to differ. A Christchurch agency conducting inquiries on behalf of some New Zealand claimants (of whom there are scores) stated that the fortune was one million dollars, not pounds, that it was built up in New York, though it is now held by trustees in Chicago, and that it should not be called the “ Walsh ” fortune, but the “ Wood ” fortune.

Since its institution of some time ago, the’Dunedin firm of solicitors has been deluged wth letters from ail over the dominion. One of the principals of tho firm stated this morning that as yet no communication had been received from either Mrs Noble or Mrs Moran. It will be noted that the Press Association message from Thames sets out that Mrs'Noble is a grand-daughter of Mr Walsh, but, according to a history of the case prepared by a Chicago law firm, there are no direct descendants living, and the search being conducted is for collateral heirs.
