AUSTRALIAN MINES
EMPLOYMENT OF FOREIGNERS ALLEGATIONS OF GRAFT DENIED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. PERTH, February 6. The Minister for Public Works (Mr A. M'Callum) discounts the allegations that graft prevails in the mines. Australians allege that preference is shown to foreigners, some of whom pay £5 to £lO to secure jobs. They are said to receive favour in piece work because the shift bosses receive a percentage of their earnings. Mr M'Callum added that the Chamber of Mines denied the allegations, and he intimated that if there was any proof of such practices they would be stamped out, and those taking money would bp dismissed.
