(2.45 p.m.), 1,633 tons, Howie, for Lyttelton and Wellington. COASTWISE MOVEMENTS. Poolta was to have sailed yesterday, but was delayed by rain, and it is now hoped to dispatch her late this evening for Napier, Gisborne, and Tauranga, via ports. Breeze arrived early this afternoon from Wellington, and it was hoped to despatch her later for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Pictou, and Wanganui. Waimarino arrived this afternoon from Lyttelton, and is scheduled to sail this evening for Bluff. She will return on Saturday. Storm is due on Saturday morning from Bluff, and is to load and sail on the same day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui WAIKOUAITI AT BLUFF. The Union Company advises that the Waikouaiti arrived at Bluff from Sydney this morning. She will leave tonight and reach Dunedin to-morrow, sailing on Friday afternoon for Timaru and Lyttelton. „ Transhipments from the following vessels are carried:—Ballarat, Ormonde, Talleyrand, Yaye Maru, Coramissaire Hamel, and Taiping. HUNTINGDON OMITS GISBORNE. The Huntingdon, which left Port Chalmers for Napier at the end of last week, will not now call at Gisborne, but will proceed direct Horn Napier to Auckland. She will then proceed to Wellington and Bluff to complete loading for England. INTER ISLAND SERVICE. The interisland express steamer WaLine readied Lyttelton from Wellington at 6.45 a.m. to-day. Passengers and mail for the south connected with the express. HORORATA FROM LONDON. The Hororata, which is due at Port Chalmers from London on February 16, will commence loading during discharge at New Plymouth on February 21. She will complete at Wanganui, Wellington, Bluff, and Lyttelton, sailing on March 7 via Panama and Curacao for London, where she is due on April 21. MAHANA LOADING. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Maliana was to leave Auckland on Sunday for Gisborne, Wellington, Bluff, and Port Chalmers to complete loading. She will sail finally from Port Chalmers on February 21 for Southampton and London via Panama and Kingston. CANADIAN CRUISER AT BRISBANE The Canadian Cruiser, en joute from Halifax for Dunedin and Lyttelton via Australia arrived at Brisbane last Friday. She is due at Dunedin on February 21, and will complete loading at Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. WIRRAL LEAVES TAMPICO. The Wirral, cn route from New York for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Australia, left Tampico on January 25. SOUTH AFRICA ARRIVES. The tanker South Africa, bringing a cargo of motor spirit from San Pedro, arriv’d at Auckland at 8 a.m. to-dny. She will proceed to Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin to complete discharge.

PORT CHALMERS COMING. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line’s new motor vessel Port Chalmers is reported to have cleared Table Bay on Januaiy 29, en route from London to Australia. After discharging her cargo at Australian ports the vessel will come to New Zealand to load for England. The Port Chalmers is the first of three large new motor ships ordered by the company, and she was launched last October, now being on her maiden voyage. Her tonnage is abopt 8,800 gross, and her dead-weight carrying capacity is 11,500 tons. She has two sets of Doxford opposed-piston Diesel engines, each of 8,000 horse-power, and her designed speed is 15i knots. Five of her | six holds are insulated for the carriage of perishable produce, giving a capacity of 465,000 cubic feet. THE RUAHINE. ’ The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Ruahine arrived at Auckland from London at the end of last week to land passengers, mail, and cargo. Stormy south-westerly weather was encountered during the first two days of the voyage, and afterwards exceptionally fair conditions prevailed until the vessel was nearing New Zealand on Thursday, when a boisterous easterly wind and misty wet weather was experienced, and delayed her arrival by about eight hours. She was to resume her voyage to Wellington, Lyttelton, and Port Chalmers to-day. After completion of discharge she will load for her Homeward voyage at Dunedin, Lyttelton, Picton, and Wellington, leaving Wellington for London on March 3, lONIC’S SCHEDULE. The, lonic, from London and Southampton via Panama, radios that she will arrive at Auckland on Friday evening. She will leave Auckland on February 14 for Wellington, Timaru, and Lyttelton; thence to Wellington, whence she will sail for London at daybreak on March 7. AFTER MANY YEARS. The rescue of an Englishman from a yawl in the North Sea fifty years ago has been followed up by a reward of £SOO to the sole survivor of the crew of the rescue ship. The man was picked up by the Norwegian schooner Urda in 1883, bound for Bergan from Southampton. He subsequently met the Crown Prince of Norway at the international regatta at Hankoe last summer, and expressed a wish to trace his rescuers and reward them. One man, Ola Wikpereu, of Stavanger, was traced as the only survivor of the Urda’s crew. NEW JAPANESE SHIPPING COMPANY. With its headquarters in Tokio, the new Japanese shipping company, known as Toyo Kaiun Kaisha (Oriental Marine Transportation Company), has a capital of 1,000,000 yen,- one-quarter paid up. one-half of which has been subscribed by the new company and the other by the Yamashita Steamship Company. The new concern will engage in the management and operation of eight vessels of 80,000 tons gross, including one tanker owned by the Toyo K.K. This fleet will be increased to fourteen ships of 130,000 tons as soon as three vessels, now in course of construction, are put on the service, and at the expiration of the charter term for two other ships, the five vessels being owned by the Toyo Kisen Kaisha. The latter company contemplates, moreover, the construction of five motor ships which, upon completion, will increase the Toyo Kaiun’s fleet to nineteen ships of 2T0,000 tons gross. The Toyo Kisen and the Yamashita Steamship Company have maintained a close connection for more than three years in the joint ! management of the former’s steamers. VESSELS IN WIRELESS CALL.
