MILITARY COUNCIL
HEIMWEHR COUP D'ETAT IK TYROL VIRTUALLY A FASCIST GOVERNMENT Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, February 6. (Received February 7, at 12.30 p.m.) The ‘ Daily Mail’s ’ Vienna correspondent says that a virtual Fascist Government has been established in the Tyrol under the Minister of Propaganda (Dr Steidle). Although the Provincial Diet has not yet been formally dissolved, Prince Starhemberg has formed a military council. . Large reinforcements of the Heiimvehr are arriving. Dr Dollfuss telephoned asking the Governor of the Tyrol and the Heimwehr chiefs to confer with him at Vienna.
The ‘ Alanchcster Guardian’s ’ Vienna correspondent says that the Heimwehr coup d’etat has undoubtedly brought Austria a step nearer a Fascist State. So far the Heimwehr Council has not usurped the normal Government, merely acting as an advisory body, while Heimwehr _ excesses such as maltreating and dosing a Socialist editor with Castor oiL and occupying Socialist newspaper offices, have been suppressed.
