GUNNER GRANDPA AT 41
YOUNG SOLDIERS NEVER SIGH LONDON, January 20. The youngest grandfather and grandmother in the Empire have been discovered at Shoeburyness. They are Gunner Thomas Barton, of the Royal Artillery, who is forty-one, and his wife, who is thirty-five. The latter married when she was seventeen. Her husband served three years in France, and is the father of seven children, of whom the eldest married at the age of seventeen, and has just' presented her parents with a grandson. Barton says: “It’s lucky I am a heavy-weight boxer. No ( one in the barracks dared call me ‘ Grandpa.’ ” Mrs Barton says she was the youngest of fourteen children. _ Her mother is the grandmother of thirty-five children.
