ARRANGEMENTS FOR REPRESENTATIVE GAMES Lust night’s meeting <>f the General Committee of tlio Otago Cricket Association was attended by the president (Mr J. M. Fraser) and Messrs A. Martin, I). A. Solomon. I’. X. Handle, E. G. Williams. A. Hestieaux. W. Brookes, A. W. Sinclair, E. H. Ferguson. F. N. Hinny, J. Dunning, R. O. Talbot, and Dr A. A. Reid. MATCH WITH NORTH OTAGO. The question of arranging a match with North Otago was discussed, Mr Solomon drawing attention to the number of teams that were sent to outlying districts by the Wellington Association. F. if a match could not be arranged this year he thought more attention should be paid to such games next season. He urged the association to do all it could to encourage the clubs to take part in such matches. Mr Martin said that after the selectors had chosen the team for the Southland match they might ascertain what players would be available for the North Otago game. Mr Talbot suggested that a mid-week game might he arranged, and it was decided that it be left to him to see members of the North Otago Association with a view to arranging a midweek game. GAME AT BALCLUTHA. The Secretary of the South Otago Association (Mr J. H. Stevenson) wrote stating that his association was desirous of having Mr F. T. Badcock visit Bald nth a if possible, and he was instructed to inquire if a match could be arranged. Tie stated that it need not bo with a representative team—a club team including Mr Badcock would be equally welcome. It was' decided to offer the South Otago Association a match on March 23 (Anniversary Day) with a second grade A representative team. ° A Junior Selection Committee was appointed as follows: —Messrs J. Howarth, H. Harvey, T. Hughes. TONGA PARK. The Acting-Town Clerk (Mr R. A. Johnston) wrote advising that the association’s offer for the sole right to use Tonga Park for cricket during the 1934-35 season at a rental of £6O, had been accepted by the City Conned. The Secretary of the Christian Brothers’ Old Boys’ Club wrote statiim that his committee did not think it "could meet the liability of £8 15s a season for two seasons for the preparation of wickets on Tonga Park, but would pay £5 a season. His committee had instructed him to thank the association for the work it had done in acquiring Tonga Park for the exclusive use of the Christian Brothers and Dunedin Clubs. It was decided to extend the time for Christian Brothers to meet this liability from two years to three years. BALCLUTHA PLAYER’S CLAIMS. The Secretary of the South Otago Association wrote stating that he had been directed to write soliciting consideration for one of their South Otago cricketers. The player they thought should come under the notice of the association’s selectors was T. Gold, of the Balclntha Chib. He had shown exceptional promise as a wicketkeeper, and had the makings of a very good batsman. Those who had seen him in action behind thd wickets stated that he compared more than favourably with other well-known Otago players. The association felt that Gold should be given an opportunity, and asked that consideration he given to the arranging of a “ try-out” on a practice night or for any Saturday game. It was decided to invite Gold to attend the practices at Carisbrook tonight and on Thursday. GENERAL. On the motion of Mr Solomon it was decided to ask the selectors to select right away the team to meet Southland at Invercargill at Easter. The Assistant-secretary of the ■ Wellington Association wrote stating that the province would bo able to field its strongest side in Dunedin on the dates suggested by Otago—namely, February 16, 17, 19, and 20. The team would arrive on February 14, staying at the Carlton Hotel. It was decided that it be a _ recommendation to the Grade Committee to play a round of matches on Anniversary Day, March 23. The Secretary of the Grange Club (Air W. A. Rowland) wrote stating that he had been instructed to report that the coach (Mr Badcock) did not attend the North Ground on Monday evening, January 22. He stated that Mr Badcock approached a member of the Grange Club re going to the ground, and this member informed the coach that he did not think there would he anyone there, so the coach said ne would -not attend. Unfortunately there were several members, including the club captain (Mr Chadwick) awaiting the coach, and they were disappointed he did not arrive. It was understood that the coach was to go to the ground whether it was wet or line. —lt was decided to write to Air Badcock, pointing out that his instructions should come from the chairman of the Coach Committee. it was decided to make arrangements for the screening in Invercargill of Air F. T. Badcock’s slow-motion picture talkie of cricket during the ' visit of the Otago team at Easter time. in reply to a question from Mr Hestieaux, the Chairman said he thought Otago’s share from the Auckland match would be about £4O, and from tlie Canterbury match between £6O and £7O. Atessrs D. A. Solomon, E. H. Ferguson, and E. G. Williams were ap pointed a vigilance committee to look after the requirements of the Wellington team during its visit to Dunedin.
