FRENCH IMPORT QUOTAS RETALIATION BY BRITAIN Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyiight. LONDON, February 2. The ‘ Daily Telgeraph ’ says that in view of France’s action the British Government’s decision to impose retaliatory duties will be enforced in the coming week. Details of the French reply are not discosed, but it is known to be entirely disappointing and unsatisfactory. To-day’s consultations at the Foreign Office and the Board of Trade resulted in the decision that retaliation was the only course open. The time limit, which expires on Monday, may be extended a few days to permit a careful drafting of the schedule of the new duties. Ministers feel that as France intends to use quotas to counter trade negotiations, only retaliatory duties will enable Britain to negotiate on equal terms.
