ORKNEY AND SHETLAND SOCIETY
MONTHLY SOCIAL The monthly social of the Orkney and Shetland Society was held in the Unity Chambers, Stuart street, on Saturday evening. The hall was well filled with members of the society and visitors. The president (Mr J. F.Spence) opened the proceedings with a few well-chosen remarks, and expressed a wish that everyone would thoroughly enjoy themselves. The musical part of the programme was in the hands of Misses Valda M'Curdy, Ruth Stubbs, Phyllis Clare, and Mr W. Stevenson, who contributed songs, and all had to respond with a second item. A feature of the evening was an exhibition of spinning by Mrs J. R. Fraser on a special wheel designed and patented by Mr Peter Fraser. This wheel is electrically driven, and was shown in public for the first time on this occasion. Dancing was indulged in by young and old to music supplied by Miss Allan’s orchestra.
