WATER POLO A GRADE COMPETITION Kiwi A and St. Clair A played a drawn game (3 all) in the third series of the second round of the A grade water polo competition at the Munici pal Baths on/Saturday night, after a close and interesting display. Both teams had to call on B grade players, and Kiwi was weakened by the absence of Reg. Geddes, who ■ has been laid aside with a boil on the leg, while St. Clair were without S. M'Kenzie. The teams were: St. Clair A: J. Swan, J. Faulks, A. Harrod, W. N. Woods, V. Aldous, W. J. Jarvis, and C. Durand. Kiwi A—P. Mathieson, D. Pickard, D. Duff. W. A. Black. AThomas, M. Taylor, and O. Holland. Holland opened the score with a good goal for Kiwi, and a couple of minutes later Thomas was awarded a penalty and shot a goal, half-time being sounded with the score: Kiwi A 2, St. Clair A 0. Holland scored again shortly after the resumption, and then St. Clair settled down to take a hand, Jarvis scoring with a good shot. He was making use of his chances, and netted again a few second later, making the score: Kiwi A 3, St. Clair 2. About llsec before the bell rang Jarvis scored with a great shot, and the game ended; Kiwi A 3, St. Clair A 3. For Kiwi, M. Taylor, P. Mathieson, and D. Pickard played well, and for St. Clair. W. J. SWIMMING ENGLISH GIRL'S RECSRD SYDNEY, February 4. At the New South Wales women’s swimming championships at Googee baths last night the 440yds national championship of Australia was won by the English girl, Joyce ' Cooper, in smin 50 l-ssec, lowering by 3-ssec the record ’held by. Jean Cocks. Edna Davey ■ was a close second in omin 51sec, and Evelyn Delacey (Western Australia) third, in 6min lOsec. The title, ■; however, cannot go .to Joyce Cooper, and will pass to Edna Davey.
