At the fortnightly meeting of Loyal Prince of AValcs Lodge, held at Port Chalmers on Wednesday evening, there was a large attendance of members, N.G. Bro. H. Williamson presiding. After the correspondence had been dealt with one new member was initiated, and later two further propositions for membership were received. Under the adjourned summoned meeting, the annual report and balance-ssheet were presented, and after some discussion were formally adopted. A feature of the report was the big decrease in sick pay, the amount expended for the period being £358, as against £464 last year, a decrease of £lO6. The management fund stands at £Bl9, showing an increase of £8 10s, which, in view of the amounts transferred to the social fund, proves this fund to be in a sound state. P.G.M. Bro. R. S. Jack (auditor), in presenting the report, congratulated the lodge on the sound nature of the investments, and paid a tribute to the excellent manner in which their capable secretary (Bro. AV. J. Johnston) had carried out his duties. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Prjncess Elizabeth Lodge, held at Balclutha on Tuesday evening, was largely attended, N.G. Bro. Murdoch presiding ALsiting brethren from the Loyal Dalton Lodge wore welcomed. Since its opening the new lodge has made good progress, and at this meeting two new members were initiated, the officers carrying out their duties in a very capable manner. The way the members are learning the ritual indicates that they are taking a keen interest in the lodge, which augurs well for its future success. An invitation was received to attend a degree meeting at Loyal Dalton Lodge on Tuesday next, when the first degree will be given. Practically all the members also_ applied for the second degree, to be given in their own lodge next lodge night. V.G. Bro. A. Anderson, in replying to the visitors’ toast, congratulated the lodge on the progress being made. At the conclusion of lodge business an open dance was held. This was the first social function under the auspices of the new lodge, and, judging by its success, it will he the forerunner of many more. There was a large attendance, over fifty couples taking the floor. Bro. A. Dawson supplied the music, and was assisted by Air Pitt (mandolin) and .Sister Fairbairn, who played extras. P.G. Bro Murdoch carried out the duties of M.C., and the ladies provided the supper. The function generally was a very enjoyable one, and the new lodge is to be congratulated on its first social effort. The Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge met in the M.U. Hall, Stuart street, on Tuesday evening, when there was a good, attendance of members and visit-

ing brethren. N.G. Bro. B. J. Dickison presided. Before commencing business, the N.G. made reference to the passing of an old and esteemed member, Bro. R. Teller, who had been connected with the Hand and Heart Lodge for fortysix years, and a motion of sympathy was passed, members standing in silence as a tribute of respect. A motion of condolence was also carried with Bro. A. Aitken in his recent bereavement. Three new members were initiated, and one proposition for membership received. Nominations for delegates to the annual district meeting were opened. After a discussion on medical service, it was decided to forward a recommendation to the Friendly Societies’ Council per medium of the lodge’s representatives regarding the position of lodge patients desiring the services of specialists. The N.G. of the Loyal Valley Lodge accepted a challenge to a debate next lodge night, the matter of electing a team being left in the hands of Bro. A. Fraser. Arrangements were completed for a cricket match with Loyal Albion Lodge. Representatives of the lodge on the Juvenile Management Committee spoke on the desirability of a suitable hall for the United Juvenile Lodge, and the secretary (Bro. Sharp) was directed to make formal application for the use of the present hall. During the evening P.G. Bro. H. Armstrong was the recipient of a framed emblematical certificate. In making ihe award, the G.M. referred to the capable manner in which Bro. Armstrong had carried out his duties as an officer. Following the close of business, members took part in a card tournament ns guests of the_ elective officers, who donated trophies to the winners. . T . ~, ~ The Loyal Tapanui Lodge held its monthlv meeting in the Oddfellows Hall, Tapanui, on Thursday evening, when there was a good attendance of members, the N.G,, Bro. T. L. Keir, presiding. The correspondence included notification from the District Secretary that the annual district meeting would be held at Port Chalmers on March 10, under the auspices of Prince of AVales Lodge. It was resolved to p'?«s a remit on the order paper making application for the half-yearly meeting of the district to he held at Tapanui in September. The Ball Committee reported that the annual hall had been successful, socially and financially. It was resolved to forward a letter pt sympathy to Bro. R. Haugh m his recent bereavement. One proposition for membership was received. Bro. E. Arnold (secretary), in the course of an interesting lecture, spoke on the duties of the N.G. as chairman of a lodge, and was accorded a vote of thanks. The toast of visiting brethren was acknowledged by Bro A. M'Kenzie (Loyal AA raiknka Lodge).
