FREE KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION
MEETING OF COUNCIL The first meeting for the year of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Council was held on Thursday afternoon. In the absence of the president_ (Mrs 1). Phillips) Mrs J. R. Glendining, the senior vice-president, was in the chair, and the following members were present:— Mesdames Ewing, W. Fitzgerald, Haggitt, Hanan, Hutchison, Melville, and Shand. It was reported that the kindergartens would reopen next Tuesday, and that Mrs Hill would commence her new duties at the R. S. Reynolds Kindergarten on that day. Three interesting letters from Miss Rene Wilkie -were read. Miss Rene Wilkie, who is the Carnegie fellowship student, gives a very interesting account of her visits with a group of foreign students to various American training schools. Among other classes she lias joined a folk dancing class in New York, where she is gathering much valuable information for students and children. She is also very interested in the 4H clubs, where hoys and girls are taught farm work and home management, 4H standing for Health, Head, Handi and Happiness. Besides teaching these children the club helps the members to get work, to earn their way through college, to buy new equipment, etc. Miss Wilkie also gives a very graphic description of home life at Christmas time in America.
A year’s leave of absence was granted to Mrs Sandford Cox, who is going on a holiday visit to Great Britain
