His Honour Mr Justice Kennedy returned last evening from the north. Mr W. Jacobsen travelled to Christchurch by train to-day. ■ Mr W. J. M'Allen left to-ds# for; Auckland. Nine branch salesmen in the service of the National Mortgage and Agency, Company left Dunedin this morning for their homes after attending a company conference—Mr J, F. Miller for Invercargill, W. F. Hawke for Gore, Mr JW. Holmes for Oamaru, Mr D. W. Gray for Waimate, Mr W. E. Baird for; Timaru, Mr D. Lawson and Mr L. W. Christmas for Ashburton, Mr. J. Y< Allan and Mr J. Mi Christie for Christchurch. ... Mr John J. O’Regan left- this morning for Invercargill to take up a teaching position in Southland. Miss Nancy Hobson has been notified that she passed the final section of the Diploma of Music at the University. Sir J. Sutherland Ross returned last evening after a visit to Wellington and Auckland. The Rev. George M‘Neur and Mrs M'Nour arrived yesterday on furlough from Canton. Members of the ' Evening Star ’ staff gathered yesterday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr R. M'Connell, who is severing his connection with the company after seventeen years’ service.The managing director (Mr C. Stanley Smith), in presenting Mr M'Connell with a wallet on behalf of the employers and employees, .said that he had always been a willing worker and had given entire satisfaction during his term of employment with the company. After Mr M'Connell had replied, three cheers were given in his honour.
