QUEEN CARNIVAL
The queen carnival contest, which has been conducted at Port Chalmers for the past two months, ,will be brought to a close this evening. ' The contest has created considerable local interest, and the various committees have, ! been untiring in their efforts to raise money for their respective queens. The . position of the queens last night showed tjiat the citizens’ queen was leading, with the Port Chalmers Rowing Club queen second, and the Queen’s Drive Boating Club’s queen third. During the past week many functions, have been arranged by the respective committees, and it is anticipated that as a result of the finance of each candidate will be increased. The margin between each candidate is so small that it is probable that at the close of the contest very , little will separate the three queens... The organisation of the carnival has been good. and. under the direction of the secretary' of the Regatta Committee (Mr L P. Smith) everything has been conducted satisfactorily.
