A JOCKEY’S DEATH

The Judicial Committee’s adjourned inquiry into the death of G. A. Baker, Kelly’s jockey in the Calliope Handicap on Saturday, was concluded yesterday, and the following announcement was made“ The committee finds that the accident was due to the horse coming too sharply into the rails about two furlongs and a-half from home, whereby the rjder w 7 as thrown and the horse came down. The evidence shows that the course and the rail at this point were in excellent condition for racing. The evidence indicates that the rider brought his mount in too quickly at this point, and in view of the fact that his mount was having his first race, he was probably running somewhat green. There was no evidence of foul riding or interference by the other riders. Kelly was running last just prior to the mishap, which was purely accidental. No blame is attachable to anyone.”
