When rusty curtain pins < have marked a curtain you should treat them by dampening the stained parts and putting on a thin layer of cream of tartar. For bad stains use hot water instead of cold. Bath waterlines can be cleansed away by rubbing with a cloth soaked in paraffin and then dipped into a flat tin containing salt. Kinse the hath well with cold (not hot) water afterward until no trace of oil remains. Iron mould stains on washable materials may be treated by rubbing with a piece of lemon dipped in salt. Immerse the stained material at once in boiling water, to which a little ammonia has been added. Uinse in clear, warm water, and bang in tbe open air for several hours. • * • A rustv gate is best cleaned by thoroughly blackleading it and leaving the blacklead on for two days. Then clean it with more blacklead, to which a little turpentine lias been added, and you will get a high polish, while every trace of rust will have gone. « « * • Little rubber window wedges to stop rattling windows from causing annoyance, especially to sleepers at night, can be obtained in kitchenware departments. • * * ♦ Knobs of saucepans and kettles that have become mislaid or broken can he replaced with easily-attached, brightlycoloured knobs in various sizes, while patent seals, to fit any size of bottle, are bandy for replacing missing corks or seals.
