FORBURY PARK TROTS

SUCCESSFUL SUMMER iEETING SILVER DE ORO WINS METROPOLITAN Favoured with, perfect weather, the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s Summer Meeting was brought to a successful conclusion on Saturday afternoon, and the attendance was one of the largest •een at the park since Exhibition year. The takings at the gates amounted to £SBB 6s, as compared with £494 5s on the corresponding day last year, and the total increase from this source was £142 more than in 1933. / The track ■ was fast; but towards the ‘close of the meeting became dusty, and this may have been partially the cause of a sensational accident in the second last race, when four of the nine starters fell just as the . field entered' , the straight for the . final run home. It looked to be a very nasty accident, and the large crowd was much relieved when the four drivers concerned were seen to be standing up. An inquiry was held into the cause of the smash, ' but after hearing evidence it was found that no - particular driver was at fault and no action was taken. The racing was highly interesting throughout. the afternoon, and a number of the finishes were exciting. Mr Dunne’s starting was much more satisfactory than on the opening day, and t he appeared to have the drivers under better control. _ The Judicial { Committee fined A. Smith, driver of Bonhaven in the opening event, £5 for using faulty gear, E. Todd, driver of Happy Knight, was fined £lO dor.-interference with Summit. The meeting was well managed and punctuality was observed. During the afternoon £19,387 10s passed through the totalisator, as compared with £16,858 10s last year, making the total for the meeting £32,196 10s, as against £28,554 last year, £32,000 10s in 1932, £38,232 10s in 1931, and £62,189 in 1930. , . . *• Concluding results in detail: — METROPOLITAN HANDICAP, 350 sovs;- second 60, third 20.
