SELECTION OF 3ZR’S ANNOUNCER
Thirty applications have been received from all over the West Coast fur the position of announcer at station 3ZR (says the ‘ Grey Star'’). Twelve have been selected, ami they wjll have tests before the microphone, the final selection being made by the public. Each will be given a quarter of an hour's announcing, and listeners will forward to the manager of 3ZR their votes on the number or the applicant whose voice they would prefer to have announcing. The tests are being made, as it is an established fact that many men, whose voices are quite attractive on the public platform, where they are assisted by their personality and gestures, are not at all acceptable over the.air. The station manager, Mr M. E. Spiers, informed a ‘ Star ’ reporter that a programme committee has been formed, and an endeavour will be made to have concerts by local ■artists and companies broadcast regularly this year, in order to overcome the difficulty with recordings, and to give listeners a better and a more varied service. An appeal is now being made for funds, and if sufficient are collected it is intended to add to the usual programmes, a session during the luncheon hour from 12.30 to 1.30 p.m.
