POST-SESSIONAL BUSINESS
VARIOUS COMMISSIONS TO ACT PRIME MINISTER'S SOUTHERN TOUR [Special to the Star.] WELLINGTON, January 18. Cabinet meetings prior to the Prime Minister’s departure on his southern tour dealt with several important questions “ The name of the new judge, said the Prime Minister, “ should be available in a few days.” Commissions and inquiries are to be numerous. Mr Forbes was able to .state that the investigation following the Auditor-Gen-eral’s criticisms of the Native land development administration had been dealt with. It only remained for the names of the judge, as chairman, and two other members to be submitted for the Governor-General’s approval. Another interesting investigation mentioned relates to the film business, which the Minister of Industries and Commerce expects to finalise this week. Questioned regarding the Currency Committee to consider various plans for the modification of the present system and report to Parliament, Mr Forbes said: “We. have not reached the final stage, as we are not sufficiently forward regarding its personnel. ” The Prime Minister was reminded'of still another commission in prospect relating to local body administration. Smilingly suggesting that there was sufficient on hand, he added that this must await his return to Wellington at the end of the month. During the Prime Minister’s tour of the mining districts in Central Otago the new Under-Secretary for Mines (Mr Tvndall), who will be completing his final duties with the Highways Board touring the South Island, will join the Ministerial party to undertake his first duties in his new capacity. Dr Marsden (secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research) also accompanies Mr Forbes.
