Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— The general inference is that the meteorological situation is controlled principally by a deep tropical cyclone centred in the New Hebrides. A series of shallow depressions Is passing in the south, but is likely to produce very little rainfall. Forecast: Moderate to strong westerly winds reaching gale force at times in Foveaux Strait. (3.40 a.m.), 749 tons, WiL liams, from Lyttelton. COASTWISE MOVEMENTS. Waimarino, arrived yesterday from Auckland via ports, and sailed again in ■the evening for Bluff. She is due back on Saturday morning, and is to sail on the same day for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. Storm, arrived early this morning from -Timaru. She is to sail to-night for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. Totara, is' to sail at 4.30 p.m. to-day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and New Plymouth. Poolta, is to leave Wellington on Friday. She is to load at Dunedin and sail on Tuesday for Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne via ports. 1 Wingatui. is to leave Auckland tomorrow for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. She is due on January 25. Kini, is to leave Westport on Thursday for Wellington, Lyttelton, Oamaru, and Dunedin. She is to. leave this port on January 29 for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Auckland, and New Plymouth. PERSONAL. ' Mr D. Luckett is. now second officer of the Kalingo. having relieved Mr C. H. Adams for holidays. Mr D. R. M'Phail is being appointed fourth officer ot the Monowai at Sydney, refieving Mr F. S. Bowman for further orders. Captain J. G. Watson has completed his holiday and is awaiting instructions' at Wellington. Captain A. W. Creese will be arriving at Wellington this week from -Melbourne to await orders. Captain A. Heed, of the Waikawa, is at present on holidays at Auckland, Mr R. Duncan, late chief officer of the Waiuui, who has been in hospital with a fractured arm, is now convalescent at Wellington. Mr A. C. Crosbie, late third officer of the Waipahi, is at present ashore at Auckland with a broken ankle. The Kaimai has recommissioned at Wellington with the following engineers :—Chief, Mr G. Broadley; second, Mr W M. Jackson; third, Mr M. M’Leod. Mr W. S. Hall has joined the Karetu as chief engineer in place of Mr J. Nelson, who has transferred to the Narbada in a similar capacity. Mr L. K. M'Murrich has joined the Rangatira as chief engineer in place of Mr A. L. Gatland, who has gone on holiday leave. Mr H. J. Knewstubb lias joined the Tainahine as chief engineer, relieving Mr W. N. Aimers for holiday leave. Mr B. L. Russell has been engaged as assistant* purser of’the Rangatira, having relinquished a similar position on the Monowai. Mr H. A. Brockett, chief officer of the Waikawa, has been transferred to the Hauraki in a similar capacity, relieving Mr D. N. M'Leish, who has gone to the Narbada, relieving Air C. Burgess for holidays. AYMERIC ON SATURDAY. Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co. advise that the Aymeric left Auckland yesterday, morning for Port Chalmers. She is due on Saturday afternoon to discharge' a quantity of sulphur, and on completion of this will sail for Newcastle to complete unloading.

INTERISLAND SERVICE. The interisland express steamer Rangatira arrived at Lyttelton from Wellington at 6.50 a.m. to-day. Passengers and mail for the south connected with the express. KARETU TO-AIORROW. The Union Company advises that the Karetu left Lyttelton this morning, and is due to-morrow morning. She \vi)l discharge the local consignment of her cargo from Penang and the East, and sail for Bluff on Friday. PASSENGERS BY MONGOLIA. The P. arid 0. Company advises that the following passengers have booked through to New Zealand by the Mongolia, which arrived at Melbourne' on January 8 from London:—Mr and Airs and Aliss Theobald, Mr Bartlett,, Air Bromhead, Airs Baird, Mrs and Misses ! The Kalingo, loading in Australia for New Zealand ports, has been bar-bound j at Grafton, New South Wales, and was Ito leave there on Tuesday for Newcastle. She should now get away from Newcastle on Friday for Auckland. TEES FROM THE GHATHAAIS. Fine weather was experienced throughout the round trip by the steamer Tees, wfiich arrived at Lyt•telton early on Tuesday morning from the Chatham Islands. The vessel called at Waitangi, Te Anui, Kaingaroa, Owenga, Manukau, Pitt Island, ManI gere Island, and Waitangi West. Alan- ■ gere Island is uninhabited except at shearing time, and there are 600 sheep lon the little island. The following passengers were brought:—Air and Airs M'Lellan, Miss V. Prenderville, Major Hutton, Messrs Godby, Izard, R. Idiens, J. Prenderville, Nelson, P. Canham. ASHBURTON AT AUCKLAND. The Ashburton reached Auckland yesterday from New York.and the Gulf of Mexico. Her other ports of discharge will be Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, after which she will proceed to Australia. MATAKANA FOR AUCKLAND. The Matakana was scheduled to leave Liverpool on January 15 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and; Bluff. She, is expected to reach Auckland. oir February 23; - ■ CANADIAN SCOTTISH FOR • NAPIER, ' The Canadian Scottish, from Montreal, via Australian ports, arrived at Napier yesterday. She will later proceed to Wellington and Auckland to complete loading for New York, Boston, and Halifax. ' I’ HAURAKI TO-NIGHT. The Union Company’s motor vessel Hauraki is to arrive this evening to discharge cargo from the Pacific Coast via northern ports. She is to sail on Friday for Hobart, Beauty Point, Melbourne, and Sydney. NARBADA ON TUESDAY. The Narbada, the Union Company’s chartered Indian trader, was scheduled to leave Lyttelton to-day for Timaru and Dunedin. She is due at this port on Tuesday, and is to sail again on Thursday for Bluff and Newcastle. VESSELS IN WIRELESS CALL.
