ELECTRICAL SHOWROOM

NORTHERN TOUR BY ENGINEER IS THE EXPENDITURE JUSTIFIED 7 As it is desirable that the .city electrical engineer should have an opportunity of making further inquiries regarding details of the fitting up and operation of the new showroom, he has been authorised to proceed on a short visit to Auckland Wellington, and Christchurch for the purpose of inspecting the rooms in operation there. This report by the. E.P. and L. Committee to the City Council was last night criticised by Cr M. Silverstone, who said he could see no necessity for spending money on a tour when there were men in Dunedin with experience tp arrange a showroom.. He considered that the expenditure on a dominion trip by the electrical engineer was unnecessary. The Dunedin- electrical showrooms were as good as any he had seen elsewhere. The Mayor" said that the opening of a central showroom was one step in the right direction. Mr J. B. Shacklock (chairman of the E.P. and L. Committee) said that the engineer was of the opinion that it was advisable to make a,visit to northern centres with a view to Dunedin keeping clear of the mistakes made in the showrooms of the other cities. Ihe arranging of a showroom was not an electrical engineer’s business. Cr F. Jones: Hear, hear. Cr Shacklock said the engineer was desirous. of keeping clear of any pitfalls. - . The report was adopted.
