E Harraway (Dunedin), playing Lambeth (Balmacewen), established a lead in the early stages and was 8-5 on the seventh head. On the eighth Lambeth lay 2, and Harraway nominated a shot to take the two opposing lying shots out. With an excellent shot this was accomplished, and he collected a 4 as his reward, and the score was then 12-5 after seven heads had been played. Harraway’s men were playing well, and' scored a 5 on the eleventh, the score being 26-6 after fourteen heads. Harraway’s team were comfortable winners by 30 to 9, the game finishing on the nineteenth head. Deare’s Dunedin men gave Bandy (Papanui) a torrid time, and but for the excellent elforts of the Papanui team’s skip, Deafe would have had a higher total, Bandy saving repeatedly when 4’s and 6’s were lying _ against him. Bandy proved a favourite with the spectators, his aggressive methods provoking considerable ■ applause. Deare’s rink was not to be denied, and ran out the winners rather easily by 25 to 13. ' • . H. Wilson (Linwood, Christchurch) got away early on-, Veitch (West Harbour), and after seven heads led 12-3. Wilson held Veitch for a few heads*, and kept him down mainly to singles, the score on the sixteenth being 22-9. The game finished 24-12, with the Linwooci men having much the better of it. Wilson, it may be remembered, won the Maddison trophy (singles champion of champions) in 1932, and this team won the New Year rinks competition in Christchurch recently. Healey (Waimate) and Edwards (Temuka) were evenly matched. The former collected a 4 on the third head, and was leading 6-3. Even play followed, with Waimate 2 up on the eleventh, the score being 1 1 -9. A 4 to Temuka on the fifteenth levelled the scores, 15 all. Waimate went away and scored 5 on the eighteenth, and the game ended 20-19 in Healey’s favour. CALEDONIAN GREEN. A lai'ge crowd of spectators w’bnessed some excellent games in the one-life division this morning, and 'the high standard of play, together with the splendid condition of the green, which was playing fast and true, was responsible for some very close finishes. Dee (Nelson) and Gilbert (Karori) were very evenly matched for the first seven heads, when the score was 8 all, and again up to the thirteenth head, when the scores were 13 all. 'lhen Dee, by means of good play, notched a 7, followed by a single and a brace, the score at the sixteenth head' being 23-13 in favour of the Nelson rink. Gilbert then notched two singles and a brace, Nelson replying with a 3, to make the final score 26-17. M’Comish, who skippered the Nelson rink in place of Dee, played an outstanding game. Very interesting play was seen in the game between Wilkinson (Cromwell) and Muston (Carlton). Muston opened the scoring with a single, followed by a 2 iii the second head, and at the fourth head the score was 5-1 in his favour. Muston was in good form, and at the sixth head he notched a 3 to make the score 9-1. Wilkinson retaliated with a similar score. The scoring was even until the fourteenth

head, when Muston was leading, 14-10. Wilkinson then forged ahead, and at the twentieth was two Tip on his opponent. A single on the twenty-first gave him the game, the final score being 19-16 in his favour. , The best game of the morning was provided by Walker (Auckland) and Shaw (Te Rangi). The first four heads were all in favour of the Auckland player, who led, 6-0. Walker had a •narrow lead at ithe thirteenth', the scores being 13-10. Amid much excitement Shaw went to the front, and, drawing two shots at the last head, he emerged the victor of a splendid tussle, 19-17. Another close game was played between Thomson (Phoenix) and Whiblev (Greymouth), the scores at the eleventh head being 6 all, and at the thirteenth Thomson had a narrow lead. Wbibley equalised at the nineteenth hea I d, the scores being 11 all. Thomson then notched a single to take the game by one point.
