DOUGHNUTS AND CARP
GERMANS AND NEW YEAR BERLIN, January 4. Germans in traditional fashion celebrated the New Year at midnight with feasts of carp, doughnuts, and punch. Berlin alone consumed 10,000,000 doughnuts .and ,-2,800,000 carp. The “turning a new leaf spirit" is notably evident. The consolidation of the Nazi State is as the outstanding New Year resolution. General Roehm congratulates- the Brown Army on a meritorious year. ' ~ ... Hitler’s new paper, the ‘ Volkischer Beobuchter,’ gigantically displays. a front-page message from Hitler, urging loyalty and discipline on his followers. The Prussian Premier, General Goering, extols Hitler and paints the fulfilment of Germany’s dream in glowing colours. .
