BUSH FIRES
MUCH DAMAGE IN TASMANIA TIMBER MILLS DESTROYED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. HOBART, January 17. (Received January 17, at 11.30 a.m.) Fierce bush fires threatened to wipe out the town of Fitzgerald, forty miles from Hobart. Men, women, and children fought the flames, but were unable to save the Risby Bros.’ timber mills, which were destroyed. The damage is estimated at £IOO,OOO. Six houses and their contents were wiped out. Another serious fire which occurred at New Norfolk destroyed two farms, while at Geeveston a timber mills and several homes were gutted.
