THRILLING BOXING CONTEST
SHADE BEATS PALMER AUSTRALIAN LOSES ON A FOUL. Prfe»» AMOciatioa— By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, January 15. At the Stadium to-night, in a return bout, the American, Dave Shade (11.13 J), gained the decision on a foul in the sixth round against Ambrose Palmer (12.0) before 8,000 spectators. It was a dazzling contest from the cutset, the combatants using their utmost ringcraft and weight, raining blows with both hands alternately, and ducking and smothering every movement of which was characterised by skill and speed. The great crowd was kept in a high pitch of excitemen* Palmer found the wily Shade more than his match, and took probably more punishment than he inflicted. He landed many blows low to Shade’s body, but this probably was due to the latter's ducking habit. A great contest ended disappointingly when Palmer dropped Shade with a very low punch while the merman was off his balance breaking from a : clinch. Shade was'Carried to hjs corner and awarded the decision.
