TARANAKI CHAMPIONSHIPS [Per United Press Association.] » NEW PLYMOUTH, January 15. The Taranaki championship finals were played in a cold wind to-day after two days’ delay because of rain. Malfroy made R. Howe (Wellington), look like a schoolboy in the singles final, and won three straight sets. His drop shots over the net wore a feature of the match. Malfroy said afterwards that he was playing all out. The finals resulted:— C. E. Malfroy' (Wellington) beat R. Howe (Brougham Hills), 6-0, 6-2, 6-0. Mrs R. P. Adams (Eltham) heat Miss Jean Taylor (New Plymouth), 6-4, 5-6, 10-8. A. and E. Dickie (Waverley) beat A. Mackenzie (New Plymouth) and T. Wright (Auckland), 10-8, 6-2, 6-2. Malfroy and Mrs Adams heat Howe and Miss Taylor, 3-6, 6-0. 6-2.
