DUNEDIN A STILL UNBEATEN

Tho opening match in the first series of the second round of the A grade waor polo competition was played at the St. Clair Club hour last night, a very close game resulting in Dunedin maintaining its unbeaten record to win by 3 goals to 2. The teams were: St. Clair A—J. Sttan (captain), S. M'Kenzie, J.

Faulks, W. J. Jarvis, C. Gladwin, W. N. Wood, and C. Durand. Dunedin A —J. Byrnes (captain), P. W. Harkess, D. Newall, B. Kerr, S. W. Jarvis, J. D. O’Driscoll, and J. Fleming. After considerable delay the match commenced at 9 18 p.m., and loose play at the St. Clair end was followed by a goal for Dunedin, J. Fleming opening the account. Dunedin A 1, St. Clair A 0. St Clair swept play to the Dunedin end. but good defence enabled the leaders to clear. St. Clair were not to be denied, and back they came to the Dunedin end, a good save and a throwout to S. Jarvis seeing the latter make a long throw to the St. Clair goal to score. Dunedin A2. St. Clair AO. Play hovered about the centre until M‘Kenzie made a long throw over the Dunedin goal. Dunedin then pressed hard, and Swan sent the ball out to tho centre, W. J. Jarvis and S. Jarvis having some real good tussles. Swan saved again, and after a good swim up Byrnes missed a shot, and half-time was sounded with the score: Dunedin A 2. St. Clair A 0.

In the opening stages of the second spell Dunedin did some good work, S. Jarvis throwing over the St. Clair goal. Swan was doing some great work, making some fine saves. St. Clair took a turn on attack, hut Harkess made a good save. Close work by Dunedin ended in a score by Fleming. Dunedin A 3. St. Clair A 0. Harkess was called on to save twice in fairly quick succession, and then St. Clair came back again. Wood , sent to M'Kenzic, who passed to W. J. Jarvis, the last named making a good throw to score. Dunedin A 3, St. Clair Al. Play went from the Dunedin end to St. Clair end, and W. Jarvis scored with a gteat shot. Dunedin A 3. St. Clair A 2.
