HIS NEW TITLE
MOTOR MAGNATE PREFERS ” MR " BARON NUFFIELD’S 1 CHOICE. LONDON, January 4., •The honours list presented Sir William Morris with the problem of a choice of title, as already there were in existence a Lord Morris,’ a Lord Cowlev, and a Lord Oxford. “I,’am a little disappointed that my name will disappear, and am unwilling to select a lengthy alternative title,” said Sir William, who hopes that his friends will eontiriue to refer to him as plain “ Mr,” as was done in the ease of the late Lord Birkenhead, whose acquaintances always knew him as " F.E.” It will be recalled, also, that when Lord Passfield was raised to the peerage his wife announced that she would insist on being called “ Mrs Svdnov Webb.” 'Two of the, other new peers also are faced with a problem, for already ki.pi-o are a Lord Cecil and a Lord Newton,- ... l‘oi those desiring to maintain the family name in the title there is always a territorial variation,. as, : for instance, Lord,Russell of Killowen and Lord Russell of Liverpool; but there is considerable risk of confusion and inconvenience. - '
[A message dated January 5 stated that Sir William Morris had taken the title of Baron Nuffield, adapting the name from the Oxfordshire village. where he lives, and in which he owns estates of 4,00.0 acres, including two parishes and a golf course.!
