BOWLS CHAMPIONSHIPS

RINKS COMPETITION SEVENTH ROUND OF PLAY The seventh round of section play in the rinks competition of the championship tournament of the New Zealand Bqwlirig Association was decided this morning under much more • favourable weather conditions than have prevailed during the last few days. A bright sun shone through the clouds, and conditions were much more pleasant for the players and spectators alike. The greens were running more smoothly this morning, and visibility; which was bad at ■the outset, improved considerably as the morning wore on. ■ The games were of twenty-live heads, play commencing at 9,30, with the eighth round set down to, commence at 2.15 p.m. Post-section play, which will be on the. two-Ufe principle, commences tomorrow, arid; three games of twentyone heads ; (or* three hours) will he played each day, the first game- commencing, not later, than 9 a.m., second gamijl p.m., and third game 4.15 p.m. Teatris qualifying for post-section play, will be those who win six or more games in their respective sections; teairis, which though they win less than six games each, are winners of, their respective sections; or teams, which though they win less than six games each, tie as one of the winners of thenrespective sections. Unless a team wins its section or ties as one of the winners of its section, no team which has been defeated more than twice in section-play will ‘qualify for post-section play. In section I, on the Dunedin green, 'Muston (Carlton, Auckland), the section leader, put up a remarkably fine finish in his game'with Longworth (St. Kilda) to notch a win by 29 to 20, bringing his record of wins to six with one loss, and thus making him certain of qualifying for post-section play. On the seventeenth head the score read 19-16 in St. Hilda’s favour, and; on the twenty-first ■ 25-16 in favour of Longworth. Scoring 2, Muston looked hopelessly' down on the twenty-second, the score being 25-18. On the, twenty-third end on a rather scattered head Muston collected a fine 7, equalising the score. Obtaining a couple of pairs on the next two heads, the Carlton team ran out winners by .29 to 25. There were some other close games in this section this morning, Healey (Waimate) winning a good, scoring game' against Tonkin (North-east Valley) by 26 to 25, bringing Healey’s wins to five< with .two losses. Shaw (Te Rangi, Invercargill) won his‘game against W. B. Allan (Taieri) by 28 to 20, this giving the Invercargill man his fifth win. An interesting position has resulted in section A, the seventh round of which was played on the North-east Valley green this morning. Barnett (Roalyn), with six wins and one loss, is assured of , participation in post-section play. This morning ho beat the wellknown Ponsonby man, Parsons, by 25 to 15. Gilbert (Karori), Deare (Dunedin), Devereux (Kaikorai), and Wilson (Linwood) each have five wins and two losses.’ Gilbert scored a comfortable, win against Deare this morning by 30 to 15.
