JOTTINGS. Acceptances foe the Wairio Meeting total eighty-two, and include Chhota, winner of the Invercargill Cup. Black Duke appeared to have at least half a head the best of the finish of the Omakau Handicap. He was not • at all judiciously ! handled in the latter half-mile. ‘ . ■ J. Ross, the trainer of Quite Soon, was not st all confident of.her chance; in the Clare Memdrial Handicap. He thought Trivet would beat his mare. Trivet lost some ground as the field turned-out of the straight in the ■ Clare Memorial Handicap. There was a mixup there in which she got the worst of it. 'But it is doubtful if she could have beaten Quite Soon on the day. Chiming Billy, winner of the twomile trot at Omakau on Saturday, is a very old horse, but showed a lot of dash in covering the journey in nearly 16seo faster than- he was handicapped ; tO gO. ~ Wynross, who wept out an odds-on ‘ chance in the New Year Trot at Oma- ‘ kau, went off the mark well enough, but did. not get into his stride until nearly a mile ■ had been- covered. - He • had then' lost so much ground that, his ’chance was hopeless. , £ , Last March’s connections thought that, with the favourable atmospherical conditions their horse would beat Mas- ’ ter Anomaly in the open six furlongs at Omakau. -He stuck to Master Anomaly for about four and a-half furlongs, but then his infirmity in the wind stopped him, and he could not even hold First Spng off when challenged for . second money. • . ; „ „ Since being First oong appears to have iost ius pace. He was started twice at Omakau.on Saturday, but ran two poor races.

Mr R. S. Black, a very loyal patron of the Vincent Jockey Club, was entrusted with making the presentations of the trophies, won on Saturday. Quite Soon, winner of the Clare Memorial Handicap, is owned by Miss Boyle, mine hostess of the Queen’s Private Hotel at Oamaru. Miss Boyle was present to receive the handsome trophy attached to the race, and received many congratulations on her filly’s success. The race card issued in connection with the racing at Qmakau was a very carelessly compiled or printed card. Whether the mistakes were secretarial or printer’s errors was not stated, but a better effort in this respect is expected from a meeting so well managed in other respects. W. H. Jones, who won the Clare Gold Cup Handicap on Quite Soon, was successful in this race last year when he won on Amy Johnson. Fair Exchange made his reappearance in a race on Saturday, when he started in- the Omakau Handicap. He ' was never able to go with the leaders, and finished a bad last

Dressy was expected to trouble Black Duke in the Omakau Handicap, but over the first six furlongs she raced like a -bus horse.

Lohengrin scored the easiest win of the-afternoon when he beat Frank Mac home in the Vincent Trotting Stakes. Mr J. Richardson was present to see his gelding win. M‘Nab broke his maiden status on Saturday by beating Norman Conquest in the Ophir ' Hack Handicap. M‘Nab won by staying on the better of the pair, but the victory does not necessarily make M‘Nab to be a good one, as Norman Conquest is by no means a.good trying-out horse.
