SLANDER DAMAGES
[P** United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, November 30. Damages amounting to £ls, and costs, were awarded by Mr Stihvell, S.M., to-day against J. T. Owen in a slander action brought by T. H. Johnston. Plaintiff alleged that defendant' used the words in public hearing on September 5: “ I see they put yon in gaol for stealing fruit. That’s where they ought to keep you when plaintiff had not been in gaol, but another man of the same name had been before the court for stealing fruit from an auction mart.
