VISIT TO AERODROME
PUBLIC BODIES ENTERTAINED POSSIBILITIES OF AVIATION In tlio Taicri Aerodrome, with it's ideal facilities and excellent situation, the citizens of Dunedin have an airport which ranks second to none in the dominion, and since the inauguration of the Otago Aero Cluh, the interest of the public in air travel has been stimulated to no small degree, both by actual tuition and the now familiar sight of the planes over the city. At the invitation of the club a |iarty consisting of the mayor (Rev. E. T. Cox), the mayoress, the members of the City Council and the Otago Harbour Hoard, together with their wives, travelled to the aerodrome by Corporation buses yesterday afternoon for the purpose of inspecting the club’s spacious property, and also the recent addition to the licet of planes, the Waco four-seater cabin machine. A very instructive hour was spent viewing the hangars, workshops, and the different sections of the planes themselves, after which afternoon tea was served in the clubroom. The visitors were then taken for short (lights. During the afternoon Mr H. L. Paterson (president of the Aero Club) expressed his gratitude for the assistance his club had received from the City Council and the Harbour Board. They were endeavouring to have tto aerodrome shifted nearer to the city, and he had been told by Mr Bornt Balchen, of the Ellsworth Expedition, that the prosposed site at the loreshore was one of the best locations he had ever seen. It was ideal in everyway, as there was scope not only lor aeroplanes, but also lor seaplanes. On behalf of the City Council, the mavor expressed his gratitude for the invitation to visit the aerodrome and said that the Council’s interest in aircraft, which was undoubtedly the transport’ of the future, was assured. Mr, H. C. Campbell (chairman ol the Harbour Board) tendered ihe Board’s thanks to the Aero Club, and said that as far as the Harbour Board was concerned it would do all it could to devolop living in Otago.
