SECOND TRIO RECITAL
A concert which promise.-; to he of unusual interest will take place at Begg's Concert Chamber on Saturday, December 9. when, in response to many requests following the success of their last performance, Mosdnmes Campbell, Porter, and Moffett will give a second trio recital. Chamber music is not often heard in Dunedin, and this recital will provide a rare opportunity to those who are interested in musical expression. The trios to be played are of diverse character. The Brahms trio in B major is a dignified and scholarly composition, comprising four movements, each marked by the nobility and depth to bo found in the works of this master. The Schumann trio in D minor is straightforward, and contains a wealth of romantic beauty, the slow movement being particularly heantilnl and in great contrast to the other movements, which have fire and a natural vigour. The Saint-Saens and Fanre trios are charming examples of the French school, and the Monssorgsky is a lovely melody in the more plaintive Russian style. The trio by Rootham is an interesting work by a modern English composer. It is characterised chiefly by its freshness, and, like the works of .several other contemporary Englishmen, is typically in a national tradition. The hooking lor the recital opens at Begg’s on Monday, and concessions arc available to students.
