MONTHLY MEETING CONTINUED The Otago Education Board continued its monthly meeting to-day, Mp James Wallace being in the chair. RESIGNATIONS ACCEPTED. The following resignations were accepted:—Douglas Simpson, head teacher, Allanton; Henry G. Simpson* head teacher, Benhar; Hercules Colquhoun, head teacher, Cromwell D.H.; Effie M'Kinnon, sole teacher, Pine Hill; Alice I. Litten, infant mistress, Oamaru South; James M. Briggs, assistant, Arthur Street; Eva M. Doig. assistant* Caversham; Clarice C. A. Weir, assistant, Forbury; Florence A. Henaghan, assistant, George Street; Winifred M. Lennon, assistant, Mornington; Arthur F. Rawlinson, assistant. Normal; E.Myra Nicholson, assistant, Shag Point* TEACHING APPOINTMENTS. Appointments were confirmed, as follow:—Annie M. Calder, second assistant, Palmerston D.H. Transfers:— Hercules Colquhoun, head master, Alexandra D.H. (from Cromwell); Arthur F. Rawlinson, head teacher, St. Leonards (from Normal)-; James M. Briggs,second assistant, Wakari (from Arthur Strbet). SUBSIDIES CONSIDERED. The Duurobin Committee applied for the construction of a small area of concrete in front of the school as an assembly ground and drill square. Tho cost of material was estimated by the architect at £lO Bs,—lt was decided to provide half cost. The architect estimated material and railage to cost £l9 10s 4d for tar-seal-ing _ about two and a-quarter square chains of playground at Waitapeka.— The board decided to reply that it could not subsidise work on such a large .area, but that it would give a subsidy up to £5. ARCHITECT’S RECOMMENDATIONS. Concerning the Hindon Committee’* application for assistance, the Architect reported that although lie had not' visited this school recently he knew the ground, and , considered the levelling work necessary. He recommended a subsidy of half the total cost, the board's share not to exceed £9.—The recommendation was adopted. An application for a subsidy for topdressing asphalt at the school and residence was granted the Lawrence Committee, the total cost being estimated at £5. GENERAL. The Houipapa teacher applied for the erection of a washhouse, scullery, and bathroom.—The Architect estimated the total cost at £Bs.—The application was referred to the architect for a report. Following a report from the arcliitect, the board decided to acquire two new hand-washing appliances of a locally-manufactured type for experimental purposes. It was decided to request the contractor for driving the children to Port Molyneux to continue, to the end of December. The request of the Weston Committee for assistance in completing tho wings of the memorial gates was declined. FILM CENSORSHIP. The heads of the Auckland secondary schools forwarded copies of a circular and asked for the board’s support of certain resolutions regarding film censorship which they had forwarded to the Government. Mr Wallace said he thought tho board would be safer in saying that it approved of greater scrutiny of pictures and posters, but it did not ally itself with the resolutions. He could speak feelingly about posters, as on the largo hoarding the George Street School posters which were very wrong were exhibited. All the children saw, the posters before they were removed.Tho censorship should take place before the pictures and posters were released. Mr P. M'Kinlay: And advertisements.
