BYRD EXPEDITION
SUPPLY SHIP HEADING FOR TAHITI (Special to Press Association from the Byrd Expedition aboard the supply ship, the Bear of Oakland.) Sunday Afternoon. The veteran ice-breaker pushed her way into the waters of the Southern Hemisphere for the first time in half a century. The traditional Neptune ceremony was held. The ship is now headed for Papeete, Tahiti,.where she will coal. It is expected that she will arrive about December 13, thence she will proceed to Wellington, where it is hoped to arrive in time to usher in 1934.
