What is officially described as an empty gas cylinder aboard tho Marama is intriguing shipping and Customs authorities here, following instructions from the New Zealand authorities-that it must not be landed but must bo returned to Auckland without fail. Nobody can solve the mystery. Eventually the innocent looking cylinder was discovered and immediately impounded. It will bo returned intact by Friday’s boat. [lt will be remembered that prior to the Mamma’s departure from Wellington for Sydney preparations were made to have tho cylinder unloaded, apparently to allow of a search being made for smuggled silver. However, tho cylinder was eventually placed in the Mamma’s hold again.]
