FOOTBALLER IN SMASH

HAZELHURST CHARGED WITH NEGLIGENCE BOTH PARTIES TO .ACCIDENT PROCEEDED AGAINST [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, November 18. Before Mr Mosley, S.M., this morning Raymond Hazelhurst, the wellknown Rugby footballer who was seriously injured in a motor collision in September was charged as .the result of the accident, with negligently driving a motor cycle in Ferry road, thereby causing bodily injuries to Dnlcie Cameron, driving at dangerous speed; and having no license. Harold Seddon Cockburn, the driver of the taxicab involved, was charged with failing to give way to traffic on his right, dangerous driving, and negligently driving, thereby causing injury to Dulcie Cameron. Both cases were heard together. A doctor gave evidence that Miss Cameron was still seriously ill, paralysed in the right side and right leg, and unable to sit up or recognise friends. Sub-Inspector Edwards, in outlining the case, said that at the time of the- accident, 10 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, Cockburn had six passengers in his taxi. He estimated his own speed at twenty to twenty-five miles, although some witnesses would estimate it at something greater. Hazelhurst had Miss Cameron on the back of his motor cycle. He apparently turned to the right at the intersection on seeing the approaching car on his left, and the collision occurred near the tram lines. Hazelhurst and the girl were thrown to the ground, and so seriously injured that for a time their lives were despaired of. However, Hazelhurst had made a good recovery. . Hazelhurst pleaded guilty to driving without a license, but not guilty to the other charges. Cockburn pleaded not guilty on all counts. Further evidence will be heard this afternoon.
