AMATEUR CYCLING

TOKOMARIRO CLUB FORMED At a meeting of cyclists convened by the Dunedin Amateur Cycling Club at Milton on Tuesday evening it was unanimously decided to break away from the amateur athletic body and form a cycling club, to be known as the Tokomairiro Amateur Cycling Club. A deputation from the Dunedin Club, consisting of Messrs A. Ockwcll (president), F. H. Greenfield (secretary), J. A. Johnston, C. G. Lucas, and J. Fletcher, organised the meeting, which was well attended by local riders and portersMr A. Ockwell, who was voted to the chair, explained that the purpose of the meeting was to give the local men an insight into the constitution of the League of Amateur Whelemen. Mr Ockwell also stated that the mission of the delegation was to endeavour to form a cycling club in Milton, but the question would be left entirely In the hands of the riders present. Mr J. A. Johnston outlined the objects of the league, and stated that nearly every cycling club in New Zealand had joined up with the new controlling body. Mr Johnston also imparted a good deal of information which he had collected while in Christchurch recently, and impressed upon the cyclists that if they decided to form a new club there was only one course for them to take, and that was to join up with the League of Amateur Wheelmen. Mr W. Lockhart moved that a new club be formed and that the club be called the Tokomairiro Amateur Cycling Club. The motion was seconded by Mr L. Fagg. An amendment by Mr A. Cleaver, seconded by Mr M, Wright, that the club be called the Milton Amateur Cycling Club was lost on the casting vote. The election of office-bearers resulted: —Patrons, Messrs P. M'Skimming, M.P., and J. Grey; president, Mr A. Cleaver; vice-presidents Messrs M. Wright, T. Smith, W. Graham, Lu Horns, and T. Fraser; secretary-treas-urer, Air W. Lockhart; handicapper, Mr A. Wills; committee—Messrs S. Wright, E. Hill, G. Paul, and J. Keen, The question of affiliation was left to the riders to decide, the decision being that the now club join tip with the League of Wheelmen on November 21. On behalf of the local members, Mr A. Cleaver thanked the deputation for coming along and for the valuable assistance which they had rendered.
