JOINT PEACE TIME COUNCIL

JUNIOR RED GROSS ACTIVITIES Sister Kirkpatrick reports that regular health talks were held at the following schools High Street, Arthur Street, Mornington, Caversham, and Kaikorai. The first-aid class at St. Philomena’s College has terminated. A class in homo nursing has commenced at the Home Science School, University of Otago. The Girl Guido troop, Port Chalmers, was given revision for its sick nux - sing badge. For the Girl Guide nursing and ambulance badges twelve Guides were re-examined. An address was given to the Ravensbonrne Mothers’ Union.

The following Junior Red Cross Circles are carrying out good programmes :—Arthur Street, Kaikorai, Forbury, High Street, George Street, Musselburgh, Mornington, Maori Hill, North-east Valley, Wakari, Archorfield, Columba College, Otago Girl’s High School, St. Hilda’s Collegiate College.

In the matter of relief of ex-service-men, eleven visits were paid and clothing given to nine. Junior Red Cross circles continue to send parcels _ of foodstuffs to about a dozen families (ten ex-servicemen) and the result in some cases has been very marked. The following donations have been received for the Christmas clothing fund:—Miss Cowie Nichols, £; Mrs G. R. Ritchie, roll of winceyette; Mornmgfon Junior Red Cross, 10s; Arthur Street Junior Red Cross, 14s. A sewing committee under Miss Ilona Allen has been formed, and will commence shortly to make up garments. The open-air school is being provided with extra foodstuffs by several schools. A delightful afternoon was given by Miss Joachim, patron of the Junior lied Cross Society, to patrons of circles, and members of the Junior Red Cross Committee. Miss Joachim, in welcoming her guests, spoke on the importance of the international side of Junior Red Cross. An outline of the work in Dunedin was given by Sister Kirkpatrick, and , this was followed by an individual account of each circle’s activities by its patron.
