A considerable degree of importance attaches to this inspection, as it is held only once during the commission of each officer commanding the station.
The unit has been training Tor the occasion for several weeks past, and the fruit of this was . seen in the marching and steadiness on parade, the men carrying out the various movements witli excellent precision. The unit, 100 strong, with six officers, was formed up as a company in line, with the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band in attendance, the_ parade being under the command of Lieutenant-com-mander F. The company then ordered arms, and the admiral, made a detailed inspection of the ranks, speaking to several of the reservists. On the completion of this, the inspecting officer, who was accompanied by several officers from H.M.S. Dunedin,- proceeded to the saluting
base while the company prepared to march past in column. Prior to the march, the exacting movement of-- a wheel in column was carried .out,, with tine judgment and exactitude. As each platoon reached the saluting point the order “eyes right ” was given by its commander, the admiral returning the compliment. At the conclusion of the march past the company was formed into a close column, and the company commander took up a position . with the admiral; Lieutenant-commander P. G. Donnelley (second in command) taking over the company.
