THE LOAN COLLECTION Mr P. L. Haisted, president of the Dunedin Public Art Gallery Society, opened the loan exhibition of paintings at the Logan Park Gallery yesterday afternoon. He said that he was pleased to see such a large attendance. It was gratifying to the council of the society to know that the exhibition had created so much interest. He tendered the thanks of the council of the society to those who had lent pictures. Though the owners would feel the absence of the paintings from their homes for the next few weeks, they would have their reward in knowing that they were, giving pleasure to very many people who would not otherwise have the opportunity of seeing such fine works of art. He went on to remind those present that new members are needed. One lady member had secured no fewer than forty new members in two or three weeks. The society was doing a great work in the interests of art in the city, but to enable it to carry on the activities in the manner desired it. must have revenue, ns the more members they had the greater would be the success of their society.
