INCIDENT IN PERSIAN GULF APOLOGIES AND REGRETS (British Official Wireless.) Pres; Association —By Telegraph—Copyright, RUGBY, September 16. (Received September 18, at 11.30 a.m.) An answer has been received from the Persian Government regarding the incident at Basidu (Kishm Island) in the Persian Gulf, where recently some Persian naval officers landed and pulled down the Union Jack. Basidu has been in British occupation for 100 years, and in response to a protest by the British Government an assurance was given by the Persian Government that the action was quite unauthorised and regrets at the officers’ behaviour were expressed. The Union Jack will be replaced in position by the British Navy. A visit is at present being paid to the friendly sheiks of the Southern Persian Gulf by the destroyer flotilla of the Mediterranean Fleet.
