RELIEVING DISTRESS
SALE OF FLANDERS POPPIES HELP FIR EX-SERVICE MEN Pr«M Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON. 15. The sum of £482,705 was raised by the sale of Flanders poppies last Armistice Day in the United Kingdom and many countries overseas. An additional £62,933 was subscribed in Scotland, where an appeal was separately organised.
The money thus raised goes to finance the benevolent work of the British Legion, relieving distress among exservice men and their dependents. The totals were less than in the preceding year, but were remarkable in view of the economic depression. On the last twelve Armistice Days over £5,000,000 has been raised by the sale of poppies, all of which were made by 360 disabled ex-service men in a special factory.
