JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 16. Almost every Rugby Union in New Zealand was represented at a dinner given by the Auckland Rugby Union in celebration of its jubilee year. Special honour was paid to Mr J. Arncil, who has been associated with the union ever since its_ formation in 1883, and is now its president. The mayor (Mr Hutchison), who presided, said that Rugby had been ono of the greatest factors in securing recognition of New Zealand overseas. Sir James Gunson said the history and traditions of New Zealand football were ingrained into the sinew, bone, and brain of the people of the dominion. He complimented Mr S. S. Doan (chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union) an his work in that position. Ho said chat Mr Dean was associated with the rycat 1924 team, but ho (Sir James Unison) would not admit that it was is good as tho 1905 team. He was, however, confident that New Zealand would yet produce a better team than ither. Other speakers included Mr Dean v Wellington), Mr G. H. Mason (Cfinerbury), Mr P. Sheehan (Otago), Mr .'rcndevillo (Wellington), Mi*H. Frost md Mr F. Sutherland (Auckland). JUBILEE TROPHY [Special to the ' Star.’] AUCKLAND, September 16. Mr Fred Earl, K.C., who played for Auckland away back a 1875, presented tho jubilee trophy or a knock-out competition to tho ~ntl Rugby Football Union, on hose behalf it was accepted by Mr nek Arueil, president, with gratitude o the subscribers—cM-timc Rugby layers of the province.
