AMERICAN COTTON
INQUIRIES BY FRENCH AGENCY THREE MILLION BALES DESIRED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. WASHINGTON, September 17. (Received September 18, at 11.35 a.m.) Administration agricultural circles are considerably surprised at the reports here from New York that the French agency, Neidecker et Cie, will endeavour to purchase 3,000,000 bales of American cotton for “ French interests.” There is no indication at what price or on what terms the agency expects to make the transaction. It is pointed out here that such a quantity represents approximately a quarter of the current production, and would have an incalculable effect on domestic surplus price levels.
