MISS VIOLET MELNOTTE
West End stage folk are still talking about the pluck of Miss Violet Melnotte, the former actress, who, at the age of eighty, feels still young enough to embark on the hazardous seas of theatrical management (states a corfesnondent). She has resumed in 1933 the control of the Duke of York’s Theatre, which she built in 1892. It was originally christened by another name, but had rather bad luck, and. With the permission of our present King, was given the title he then bore. The change of name changed the luck, and it was a going concern when Miss Melnotte sold it five years ago.. Miss Molnotte can make one boast that is impressive to-day. It was she who “ discovered ” Noel Coward.
