OBITUARY
MR F. 0. BRIDGEMAN An announcement in last night’s ‘ Star ’ made it generally known in Dunedin that Mr Frederick Orlando Bridgeman died at New Plymouth the day before yesterday. It was known that ho was not very well; in tact, lie left Dunedin some months ago for a tour of New Zealand in tho hope ot recruiting his health. He was born in Devonshire eighty-four _ years ago, received his early education at the Tavistock Grammar School and iroin private tutors, and commenced Ins banking career at Bristol . m 186/, afterwards entering the services or the Oriental Bank Corpm-ation in London. He was sent to India by that bank in 1873, and was stationed in India and Ceylon for eleven years. On the failure of the Oriental Bank ho joined the Colonial Bank of New Zealand, taking the position of assistant inspector in 1884. Ho was subsequently made manager of tho Timaru branch. In 18S8 ho left the bank to become general manager of the Kauri Timber Company at Auckland. Five years later ho entered the employ of the Bank of New Zealand ns agent at Tauranga, and in 1895 was transferred to Dunedin as assistant manager under the late Mr A. Michic. In 1899 he joined the firm of Neill and Co. Ltd., and was appointed a director, continuing in that position until he retired from business. Mr Bridgeman did not take any great part in public life. Ho was, however, keenly interested in the activities of the St. Clair improvement Society, of which he was president for some years, and he was also a member of the St. Clair Bowling Club. Mr Bridgeman was married in 1880 to the eldest daughter of Mr P. C. Neill. She died eight years ago. Ho is survived by a family of four sons and one daughter Messrs Percy (who resides in London), Frederick 0 (Wanganui). Charles B. (who is employed in the State Forestry Department), Terence (Wellington),' and Mrs C. T. Irvine (St. Glair). A son, Guy, who nad been invalided from the war, died in camp during tho influenza epidemic.
